The pizza Don Hale couldn't stop chasing.
Don Hale loved a good pizza. So in the early 60s he piled the family into the car and drove all over Utah and the Mountain West, tasting pies, gathering recipes, taking notes on dough, on sauce, on garlic bread.
When he finally landed on something that passed his discriminating taste, he needed a name with snap. Something with a z in it — he always said a name with a "z" sounded solid. He called it Litzas.
"Pizza with zip — something that rhymes with pizza."
Don is the same Don Hale who founded Hires Big H in 1959. Same family. Same standards. Sixty years later, our pizzas still go in the oven on dough we make from scratch every morning.
